One of the three Vetrotex furnaces in Czech Republic was repaired after having reached the end of its life-time. Due to a timely scheduling of the repair, as well as a solid preventive maintenance plan, the furnace operated perfectly until the last day. It allowed to build the necessary inventories prior to the repair and ensure that customers could be served with the usual volumes during the longer than usual stop of the furnace. In order to follow the increasing customers demand, Vetrotex extended the capacity during this repair by 10.000 t/year. Also, this new furnace has been equiped with latest Vetrotex fiberglass yarn technology. Vetrotex takes opportunity of furnace repair to further harmonize technologies between the three furnaces (Czech Republic & Mexico). Each one is able to produce products in the same quality, which improves the supply flexibility for our customers. In addition, more efficient energy recuperation system has been installed to reduce the energy consumption and improve the environmental footprint. This is the 2nd significant furnace extension in Czech Republic within 2 years. A total of 37 M€ have been invested in furnace repairs and capacity extensions in our Czech plant during the past 2 years. This shows the strong committement of the Saint-Gobain Group in the Vetrotex fiberglass yarn business. The latest Vetrotex furnace extension had already been a great success. As part of the World Class Manufacturing program, Vetrotex follows the Early Equipment Manufacturing Process. The new furnace reached full efficiency only a couple of days after the start-up.
