goals for Saint-Gobain Vetrotex are continuous improvement of products
and manufacturing processes, costs optimization, creation of new products
that meet new market trends and customers requirements.

To reach these objectives, an International Research and Development
Department located in the German plant of Saint Gobain Vetrotex
has
been set up. Dealing with both the physics and chemistry of glass,
the development of forming processes, and new chemical composition
of sizes for textile products, its team is composed principally of
engineers
and highly skilled technicians.
These tasks are supported by experienced technical people at each
Saint Gobain Vetrotex plant. Each team has at their disposal laboratories
equipped with the most up-to date testing and development facilities.
The Textile Workshop CAT also located in the German plant has
the means to check the quality of the Saint-Gobain Vetrotex glass
filament products in the conditions used by the customers. For example,
new air
jet weaving looms have recently been installed to evaluate the processing
properties of the Saint-Gobain Vetrotex yarns in very severe picking
conditions.
Another task of the CAT is to develop application tests in order to
reproduce the manufacturing methods of our customers. Unwinding performance,
resistance to abrasion as well physical characteristics of Saint-Gobain
products, are likely to be scientifically evaluated to provide accurate
processing recommendations to our customers.
